FP7120-K9 Hardware Identity

FP7120-K9 is a physical classic NGIPS appliance in the Cisco FirePOWER 7000 Series. It is security hardware, not an Ethernet switch and not a software-only entitlement. Cisco documents it as a 1U chassis with eight 1-Gbps copper monitoring interfaces with 1 Gbps IPS throughput in Cisco's model table.

Copper inspection-path mapping

Map all eight copper monitoring ports to tap, span or inline segments before purchase. Record which links require fail-open behavior, how bypass is tested and what happens to traffic when the appliance is removed. Keep the one-gigabit IPS figure separate from aggregate link capacity and validate the actual protocol mix.

Replacement-boundary record

Document the current inspection owner, policy export format and traffic cutover sequence for this retired 7120. Preserve a rollback path that restores the original copper path without depending on unavailable signatures or support. The receiving test should include port labeling, dual-power operation and event delivery to the approved manager.

Signature lifecycle

Record the last available intrusion and malware content, the update source and the risk owner for operating without current signatures. Hardware availability does not restore security-content support.

Policy conversion

Export network variables, access control, intrusion settings, exclusions and event destinations, then map every control to the supported replacement rather than copying an obsolete configuration blindly.

Power resilience

Test both feeds where redundant supplies exist and document the alternate path where they do not. Include power-cord type, input voltage and rack distribution in the receiving record.

Retired classic platform; Cisco's compatibility and lifecycle records must control any continued-use decision. Before purchase or reuse, reconcile the exact serial inventory, software and management compatibility, security-content availability, policy migration and replacement owner.
