FP7115-K9 Hardware Identity

FP7115-K9 is a physical mixed-media classic NGIPS appliance in the Cisco FirePOWER 7000 Series. It is security hardware, not an Ethernet switch and not a software-only entitlement. Cisco documents it as a 1U chassis with four copper ports and eight SFP sockets with 750 Mbps IPS throughput in Cisco's model table.

Exact interface and chassis boundary

Mixed-media receiving control

Separate copper bypass pairs from the eight SFP positions in the bill of materials. Validate every optic against link speed, reach and fiber type, and record whether the monitoring design is passive or inline. The appliance should not be accepted from a family-only description that omits the exact SFP population.

Sub-gigabit inspection budget

Measure inspected demand rather than summing nominal interface rates. Preserve packet-size, application, malware and event-logging assumptions behind the 750-Mbps design boundary. Define an explicit migration trigger so additional monitored links do not silently exceed the tested security capacity of this retired platform.

Bypass behavior

Test fail-open or fail-closed behavior for every inline pair and document the business consequence. Preserve a labeled physical bypass path for maintenance and migration.

Capacity evidence

Retain packet size, protocol mix, enabled inspections and event rate with every performance test. Published IPS throughput is conditional and should not be used as an unqualified production guarantee.

Change rollback

Keep a pre-change traffic baseline, cable map and policy checksum. Define rollback criteria that restore inspection safely without reintroducing an unsupported configuration as the permanent state.

Lifecycle and procurement decision

Retired classic platform; migration and software support must be checked before reuse. Before purchase or reuse, reconcile the exact serial inventory, software and management compatibility, security-content availability, policy migration and replacement owner. Do not represent an end-of-support platform as a current Cisco-supported security control.
