FP7010-K9 Hardware Identity

FP7010-K9 is a physical entry classic NGIPS appliance in the Cisco FirePOWER 7000 Series. It is security hardware, not an Ethernet switch and not a software-only entitlement. Cisco documents it as a 1U fixed-port chassis with 50 Mbps IPS throughput in Cisco's model table.

Fifty-megabit exception case

Require a written reason for retaining this lowest-throughput sensor. Measure the exact segment, packet profile and event volume, then prohibit unreviewed link additions. A gigabit copper connector does not make the appliance suitable for a gigabit security path; inspection demand must remain inside the validated 50-Mbps envelope.

Rapid removal procedure

Prepare a labeled cable map and a short procedure to remove or bypass the device without losing the protected path. Preserve policy evidence for migration, but do not make restoration of obsolete software the only recovery method. The asset record should state the owner and date for replacement.

Capacity evidence

Retain packet size, protocol mix, enabled inspections and event rate with every performance test. Published IPS throughput is conditional and should not be used as an unqualified production guarantee.

Power resilience

Test both feeds where redundant supplies exist and document the alternate path where they do not. Include power-cord type, input voltage and rack distribution in the receiving record.

Bypass behavior

Test fail-open or fail-closed behavior for every inline pair and document the business consequence. Preserve a labeled physical bypass path for maintenance and migration.

Lifecycle and procurement decision

Cisco records this model as end of support; it should be treated as a legacy exception. Before purchase or reuse, reconcile the exact serial inventory, software and management compatibility, security-content availability, policy migration and replacement owner. Do not represent an end-of-support platform as a current Cisco-supported security control.
