FP7110-K9 Hardware Identity

FP7110-K9 is a physical classic NGIPS appliance in the Cisco FirePOWER 7000 Series. It is security hardware, not an Ethernet switch and not a software-only entitlement. Cisco documents it as a 1U copper chassis with 500 Mbps IPS throughput in Cisco's model table.

Half-gigabit policy envelope

Define the inspected traffic ceiling using representative packets, applications and event volume. Record how oversubscription is detected and which lower-priority segment is removed first. Eight physical ports do not establish eight gigabits of inspected capacity, so the deployment diagram must show the actual aggregate security-policy load.

Inline bypass rehearsal

For every inline pair, test the expected fail-open or recovery behavior during power and software interruption. Capture cabling, port order, management addressing and the approved policy checksum. Keep a manual bypass procedure because this retired appliance cannot be treated as a currently supported perimeter control.

Event evidence

Generate representative intrusion, connection and health events and confirm timestamps, retention and forwarding to the approved monitoring system before accepting the appliance.

Recovery ownership

Assign owners for traffic bypass, policy restoration, manager recovery and evidence review. Include a timed rehearsal so the recovery plan is operational rather than a document-only control.

Monitoring placement

State whether each link is passive, inline or bypass-capable and identify asymmetric routing risks. Validate that both directions of the intended flow reach the same inspection policy.

Lifecycle and procurement decision

Retired classic platform; Cisco lists the 7100 generation as end of support. Before purchase or reuse, reconcile the exact serial inventory, software and management compatibility, security-content availability, policy migration and replacement owner. Do not represent an end-of-support platform as a current Cisco-supported security control.
