FAP-231G-N is a Fortinet FortiAP indoor Wi-Fi 6E access point with internal antennas. It provides three 2x2 radios that can be configured for 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz or scanning roles, plus an integrated BLE/Zigbee radio.
The FAP-231G uses four internal Wi-Fi antennas plus the integrated BLE/Zigbee antenna. There is no external Wi-Fi antenna bill of materials for this model. Preserve enclosure orientation, mounting height and post-install RF measurements because the antenna pattern is fixed by placement.
The final letter is retained as a regional ordering and compliance identifier; this page does not translate it into a country. Retain the N-suffix destination evidence before moving the AP from staging to production.
Use staging release as the N-suffix checkpoint. Before shipment to site, reconcile PID, serial, destination, management compatibility, PoE source and antenna form. Hold the unit if any field is absent. At installation, append negotiated Ethernet rate, enabled bands and client results to the same record so procurement identity and operating evidence remain connected.
Fortinet documents one 100/1000/2500/5000BASE-T port and one 10/100/1000BASE-T port. Under 802.3af, transmit power is limited, radio 3 and USB are disabled; 802.3at or DC enables the full documented state. Record the negotiated condition after final configuration.
Because the Wi-Fi antennas are internal, this order is accepted through mounting evidence rather than an external antenna list. Record bracket, ceiling or wall position, enclosure orientation, obstructions and post-install measurements. If the surveyed position changes, compare coverage, interference and client behavior before retaining the original RF acceptance.
The FortiAP can be managed through supported Fortinet platforms, but compatibility is release-specific. Match FortiAP firmware with the applicable FortiOS or cloud management release and preserve the tested combination.
Make the antenna record the controlling document for this PID. Reconcile physical form, mounting, orientation or external RF components before power. Attach configured transmit power, measured coverage and interference observations so the installed design can be audited later.
Record whether FortiGate, FortiEdge Cloud or SASE management is intended, plus the supported software release and first successful authorization. Authorization in a management console is not enough; preserve configuration download, radio state and named operational ownership.
Record the actual 802.3af, 802.3at or DC input after all planned radios and services are active, including any reduced-feature indication. Fortinet documents reduced function under 802.3af and full operation under 802.3at or DC, so an idle boot is not a full-power test.
Document the purpose, VLAN, authentication and test result for the additional Gigabit Ethernet port when the design uses it. Keep the wired-client result with the exact AP serial so a later room-side fault can be separated from radio and uplink behavior.
Link serial, MAC addresses, site, management object, switch port and owner before the AP leaves staging. A model-level stock entry cannot show which physical AP was installed, returned, held as spare or covered by a support case.
Commission association, authentication, address assignment, DNS and application reachability with representative clients. Separate wireless, authentication, DHCP and upstream failures in the acceptance record so a successful ping does not hide a broken user path.
Retain the management policy, administrative authorization, client security configuration and logging destination actually tested. Do not promise a security feature from the hardware family name when it has not been enabled and proven on the deployed software.
