FAP-231G-B is a Fortinet FortiAP indoor Wi-Fi 6E access point with internal antennas. It provides three 2x2 radios that can be configured for 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz or scanning roles, plus an integrated BLE/Zigbee radio.
The FAP-231G uses four internal Wi-Fi antennas plus the integrated BLE/Zigbee antenna. There is no external Wi-Fi antenna bill of materials for this model. Preserve enclosure orientation, mounting height and post-install RF measurements because the antenna pattern is fixed by placement.
The final letter is retained as a regional ordering and compliance identifier; this page does not translate it into a country. Use the B-suffix carton and purchase line as the receiving control, then attach the destination-country authorization.
Build the B-suffix record around quotation-to-asset traceability. Preserve the approved quote, supplier confirmation, received label, chassis serial, destination and reviewer as one chain. If the managed country setting later changes, create a new approval event instead of overwriting the purchase evidence; the history should explain both the supplied identity and every deployment decision.
Fortinet documents one 100/1000/2500/5000BASE-T port and one 10/100/1000BASE-T port. Under 802.3af, transmit power is limited, radio 3 and USB are disabled; 802.3at or DC enables the full documented state. Record the negotiated condition after final configuration.
Because the Wi-Fi antennas are internal, this order is accepted through mounting evidence rather than an external antenna list. Record bracket, ceiling or wall position, enclosure orientation, obstructions and post-install measurements. If the surveyed position changes, compare coverage, interference and client behavior before retaining the original RF acceptance.
The FortiAP can be managed through supported Fortinet platforms, but compatibility is release-specific. Match FortiAP firmware with the applicable FortiOS or cloud management release and preserve the tested combination.
Use the staging rack as the primary evidence point for this PID. Capture firmware, management release, Ethernet rates, PoE state, third-radio purpose and enabled bands before site shipment. At installation, append mounting and client results instead of replacing the staging baseline.
Record whether FortiGate, FortiEdge Cloud or SASE management is intended, plus the supported software release and first successful authorization. Authorization in a management console is not enough; preserve configuration download, radio state and named operational ownership.
Record the actual 802.3af, 802.3at or DC input after all planned radios and services are active, including any reduced-feature indication. Fortinet documents reduced function under 802.3af and full operation under 802.3at or DC, so an idle boot is not a full-power test.
Preserve switch port, permanent-link test, patch leads, negotiated 2.5/5GbE rate and error counters rather than assuming family capability. A lower negotiated speed should be investigated against switch capability, cable category, pair quality and patching before wireless acceptance.
Reconcile bracket, ceiling or wall interface, service clearance, cable entry and safety restraint before site work is scheduled. Photograph the mounted label and cable entry, and record how the unit can be reached without disturbing surrounding services.
Link serial, MAC addresses, site, management object, switch port and owner before the AP leaves staging. A model-level stock entry cannot show which physical AP was installed, returned, held as spare or covered by a support case.
Use Fortinet's current compatibility matrix to select matched FortiAP and FortiOS releases and retain the tested upgrade and rollback path. If versions differ, document the verified lowest-common feature set and the reason rather than silently relying on an unsupported combination.
