C9115AXI-EWC-A Small-Site Controller SKU

C9115AXI-EWC-A is the internal-antenna Catalyst 9115 ordered with an Embedded Wireless Controller image for the -A regulatory domain. Cisco's EWC architecture allows a selected AP to provide controller functions while the WLAN still needs a defined primary-controller and recovery design.

Primary AP continuity

Identify the active EWC AP, preferred backup and management ownership. Before replacing this PID, export the configuration and AP inventory, confirm software compatibility across the site, and test how clients and subordinate APs recover after primary loss.

End-of-sale changes procurement

Cisco stopped selling AP-based EWC orders on November 29, 2024. IOS XE 17.15.x is the final EWC software train, with the published support timeline extending to November 30, 2029 for entitled systems. New designs should document the eventual WLC migration.

Integrated antennas simplify the BOM

AXI uses built-in omnidirectional antennas, so external antennas are not part of this PID. If the RF design needs directional or special patterns, compare the AXE C9115AXE-EWC-Q and build a compliant antenna/cable BOM.

A-domain commissioning

Use Cisco's compliance tool to verify the A-domain SKU for the installation country. Configure only permitted country codes, channels and transmit power; do not assume that an A-domain unit can legally replace C9115AXI-EWC-I or C9115AXI-EWC-B.

Full-feature PoE check

Verify 802.3at delivery and 2.5G negotiation for full 4x4 operation and USB. Record LLDP/CDP power, radio chain state, EWC boot, controller backup and client-join results in the acceptance file.
