C9115AXI-EWC-H Overview

C9115AXI-EWC-H exact order identity

C9115AXI-EWC-H is a Cisco Catalyst 9115 Series indoor 802.11ax access point. The complete PID selects the I antenna form, access-point order carrying an Embedded Wireless Controller image and regulatory-domain token H.

Antenna and installation boundary

Cisco documents integrated omnidirectional antennas with peak gain of 3 dBi at 2.4 GHz and 4 dBi at 5 GHz. External antennas are not part of this AXI order. Mounting position, enclosure orientation and measured RF coverage are the installation evidence.

Controller-image boundary

Cisco defines the EWC order as a Catalyst 9115 access point supplied with the Embedded Wireless Controller software image. Cisco ended sale of EWC-AP orders on 2024-11-29, names IOS XE 17.15.x as the final EWC-AP train and permits conversion to lightweight CAPWAP mode.

H regulatory evidence

Cisco treats the final token as a regulatory-domain identifier and makes the customer responsible for verifying country approval. Capture the H-domain lookup date, reviewer and destination; a successful controller join does not replace this evidence.

Build the H-domain evidence around staged controller join. Capture the lookup, destination, controller country, software release and first successful join without treating the join itself as regulatory proof. Before production release, a reviewer should reconcile all five fields. A later controller reset or country change should create a new dated result while retaining the accepted baseline.

PoE and environmental reduced states

With 802.3at, the 9115 operates both radios at 4x4, negotiates 2.5G and enables USB; 802.3at full-feature consumption is published as 20.4W. Under 802.3af both radios reduce to 2x2, Ethernet reduces to 1G and USB is disabled. Cisco also documents the same reduced state above 40 degrees C ambient.

Lifecycle and migration decision

The EWC order has already passed its 2024-11-29 end-of-sale date. Cisco identifies 17.15.x as the final EWC-AP train and 2029-11-30 as last support, while allowing conversion to lightweight CAPWAP mode.

Deployment evidence worksheet

Controller join evidence

Stage the access point on the controller release intended for production. Retain the controller model, software version, discovery path, authorization method and first successful CAPWAP join. Confirm that configuration download completes and that both radios reach an expected operational state. Remove any temporary staging authorization before handover. This evidence separates an orderable access point from a unit that has actually been proven compatible with the planned controller environment. For this 9115 order, retain controller discovery, image transfer and final join beside the exact serial.

Power-state acceptance

Measure power after the access point has joined its controller and the planned radios and services are active. Record switch model, port, negotiated power level, LLDP result and any reduced-capability warning. An idle boot result is not sufficient evidence for the deployed power budget. If an injector is proposed, verify its supported use and include its exact identity in the maintained bill of materials rather than treating it as an unspecified accessory. Record the negotiated 802.3at or 802.3af state because a successful boot does not prove full radio capacity.

Monitoring handover

Assign owners for AP reachability, controller join failures, radio utilization, client health and switch-port errors. Confirm that the exact serial appears in inventory and monitoring, then test the alert path. Record dashboard object, notification route and escalation owner. Telemetry that is not tied to an owned asset does not provide a reliable service baseline and will not support later comparison after channel or software changes. Correlate AP serial, CAPWAP state, radio health, Ethernet errors, PoE negotiation and client experience.

Capacity observation

Define the expected concurrent clients, application mix, airtime utilization and channel-width assumptions for this location. After commissioning, capture radio utilization, retry behavior and representative throughput during a meaningful load period. Compare the observation with the survey design and state any shortfall. A peak link rate from a data sheet is not a site capacity result and should not replace measured operating evidence. Use measured airtime, retries and client performance rather than the family's maximum PHY rate.

Replacement dependency map

Map this unit to controller, licenses, authentication services, switch power, cable, bracket, antenna design and monitoring objects. For an end-of-sale platform, state which dependencies can be reused by the planned Catalyst migration and which require change. A nominal access-point replacement can fail when the surrounding platform was never inventoried. Keep the map with the asset rather than only in a one-time project file. Compare the relevant 9174I or 9174E migration form, including controller, power, antenna and coverage changes.

Receiving inspection

At receipt, compare model label, regulatory token, antenna form, quantity, serials and visible condition with the authorized order. Photograph labels before cartons are separated. Quarantine shortages, mixed units, damaged connectors or unapproved substitutions. Do not rely on a distributor description as evidence that the exact Cisco order arrived. Close the inspection only when every physical unit is accounted for. Receiving must distinguish AXI from AXE and EWC from non-EWC before the chassis is powered.

Operational log retention

Store the initial controller events, switch-port state, radio assignment, channel list and client test results with a consistent asset identifier. Define how long commissioning evidence is retained and who can retrieve it. A later firmware, controller or RF change should add a new dated observation rather than overwrite the original. The resulting history supports lifecycle decisions and distinguishes a new regression from the accepted baseline. Keep the first accepted power, wired, radio and client results as the baseline for later troubleshooting.

Handover completeness

The handover package should include exact order identity, destination approval, serial record, controller evidence, switch port, mounting or antenna record, user-path tests and named operational owners. Review the package with the receiving team and list unresolved exceptions. A unit is not operationally accepted when important evidence remains only in installer notes, email attachments or an unowned temporary dashboard. Handover should include exact PID, serial, compliance result, software role, antenna record and lifecycle owner.
