C9115AXE-EWC-Q External-Antenna EWC

C9115AXE-EWC-Q combines the Catalyst 9115 external-antenna platform, Embedded Wireless Controller image and -Q regulatory domain. The E suffix is the primary hardware distinction from the internal-antenna EWC pages.

Antenna system is a separate design

Cisco states that external antennas are sold separately and certifies 9115E APs for antenna gains up to 6 dBi at 2.4 and 5 GHz. Select approved antennas, cables, connectors and mounting from the site RF plan; do not reuse AXI gain values.

Inspect every RF connection

Verify the external antenna ports, connector torque, cable loss, grounding and strain relief. Record antenna PID and gain for each radio, then confirm the configured power remains within the Q-domain effective-radiated-power limits.

EWC retirement path

This exact PID appears in Cisco's AP-based EWC end-of-sale list. The final EWC train is IOS XE 17.15.x; the AP can be converted to lightweight/CAPWAP mode, so document whether controller functions remain local or move to a Catalyst WLC.

Full-feature power

Provide 802.3at for 4x4 radios, 2.5G Ethernet and USB. Under 802.3af, Cisco documents reduced 2x2 radios, 1G link and no USB, which can invalidate an RF capacity plan even when the AP boots.

Q-domain acceptance

Check Q-domain approval for the actual country and exact antenna combination. Test EWC boot, configuration recovery, radio-chain health and client service only after regulatory and antenna records are complete.
