JG723A identifies the HPE 870 Unified Wired-WLAN Appliance. It is a physical 2U appliance with Ethernet switching and WLAN control, rather than a standalone AP license or an MSM-series controller. The exact-model QuickSpecs table specifies twelve copper Gigabit interfaces, twelve SFP interfaces and four 10GbE SFP+ interfaces.

Account for the retired product status

HPE marks this QuickSpecs document as retired and states that its base products are obsolete and no longer available for sale from the manufacturer. Specify media and management connections separately

The twelve RJ45 data ports operate at 100/1000 Mbps. The twelve SFP slots support the documented 100/1000 Mbps media, while the four SFP+ slots are 10GbE interfaces. A separate RJ45 serial console and RJ45 out-of-band management port serve different administrative purposes. Distinguish the base power supply from redundancy

The JG723A base configuration documents one JG527A X351 300W AC supply. The chassis has two power-supply slots and requires at least one supply. HPE allows hot-swapping, but two installed supplies must be the same type; AC and DC supplies must not be mixed. Check the offered power modules and regional cord suffix. The #AC3 ordering option selects no localized power cord, so a model-only quotation does not settle the cord contents.

Separate historical capacity from the offered AP rights

The exact-model table documents a default of 256 supported APs and expansion to 1536 through optional 32- or 128-AP E-LTUs. These historical platform figures are not proof of the license state of an offered unit. HPE lists JG774AAE for a 32-AP upgrade and JG649AAE for a 128-AP upgrade; redundant deployments have separate secondary-appliance licensing rules. Confirm the actual installed rights, transfer or activation eligibility, AP models and firmware compatibility before relying on these limits.

Fit the existing rack and service plan

The reference dimensions are 44 cm wide, 48 cm deep and 8.81 cm high, with mounting for an EIA-standard 19-inch rack. The documented operating range is 0 to 45 degrees Celsius.
