FORTINET SERVICE PROCUREMENT
Fortinet FortiCare Contract and Service SKU Guide
A buyer's reference for separating FortiGate hardware, FortiCare support contracts, service terms, registration and RMA scope when reviewing an FC-series SKU.
Do not read a service SKU as a hardware model
Fortinet's official support material distinguishes product registration from service-contract registration. Its 2026 technical guidance identifies FC or FCxx prefixes as FortiCare hardware/support contracts bound to one device serial. That makes the complete service SKU an entitlement identifier, not proof that a FortiGate appliance is included.
Fortinet does not publish a universal public character-by-character decoder for every FC-series SKU. Buyers should therefore validate the exact description supplied by Fortinet or the authorized channel instead of inferring service level, appliance family or term from a partial code.
Hardware line item
Identifies the physical FortiGate model, interfaces, power, serial number and appliance warranty context.
FortiCare line item
Identifies technical support and RMA entitlement associated with an eligible device for a defined service period.
FortiGuard line item
Identifies security-service subscriptions. Coverage and term must be checked independently from hardware support.
What a FortiCare service order should deliver
| Order element | Expected evidence | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Complete FC-series SKU | Exact Fortinet description, eligible product family, service level and term. | It does not by itself prove a physical firewall is included. |
| Service Entitlement Summary | Contract registration code and entitlement details delivered for activation. | It is not the appliance serial number. |
| FortiCloud/FortiCare account | The customer account that will own the registered product and contract. | A reseller account should not silently become the end customer's permanent owner. |
| Eligible device serial | The exact FortiGate or other supported Fortinet asset receiving entitlement. | A service code for one model family should not be assumed valid for another. |
| RMA service level | Published replacement process and response target for the purchased tier and location. | RMA does not mean a spare appliance ships with the original order. |
Register the appliance and contract in the correct order
Fortinet states that the FortiGate, and then its service contract, must be registered for full access to Customer Service and Support and FortiGuard services. The FortiGate can be registered from its GUI or the FortiCloud support portal; the service contract is registered through the portal.
The Service Entitlement Summary email contains the 12-digit contract registration code. The registration workflow associates that code with the target device serial under the chosen FortiCloud account. Account ownership, end-user details and the selected serial should be reviewed before confirmation because later transfers can require additional controls.
- Create or confirm the end customer's FortiCloud/FortiCare account.
- Register the physical FortiGate using the correct serial and end-user identity.
- Open the Service Entitlement Summary and locate the contract registration code.
- Register the service contract and select the intended device serial.
- Review the entitlement preview, service dates and included services before confirmation.
- Verify the resulting support and subscription status on the device and in Asset Management.
Support, Priority RMA and Secure RMA are different scopes
Fortinet describes per-device technical support and RMA services, optional Priority RMA services, and Secure RMA services for cases where customers do not want to return storage media or the faulty device under the ordinary process. The purchased tier and local availability determine the actual replacement commitment.
| Scope | Procurement question | Acceptance evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Technical support | Coverage hours, support channel and software/firmware access? | Entitlement portal shows the expected support tier and dates. |
| Standard RMA | Replacement process, shipment timing and return obligation? | Quote and service description identify the applicable RMA level. |
| Priority RMA | Is expedited replacement available in the installation country and postal area? | Location eligibility and response target are confirmed in writing. |
| Secure RMA | Can the customer retain storage media or avoid returning the faulty device? | The specific Secure RMA entitlement is present, not inferred from standard support. |
Fortinet advertises four-hour expedited hardware replacement availability, but availability is not universal. Confirm depot coverage, geography, cutoff times and the exact purchased tier for each installation.
FortiCare buying checklist
- Complete, unshortened Fortinet service SKU and official description.
- Eligible Fortinet product family and exact target device serial.
- New contract, renewal, upgrade or reinstatement status.
- Service term and the rule governing its start date.
- Technical support tier, RMA tier and Secure RMA requirement.
- Country, installation address and expedited-replacement availability.
- FortiGuard subscriptions included or explicitly excluded.
- FortiCloud account owner and entitlement-transfer requirements.
When comparing twelve-, thirty-six- and sixty-month variants, do not compare only total price. Normalize the annual cost, cash timing, expected hardware lifecycle, renewal administration and the risk that the covered appliance reaches end of support before the contract term finishes.

These product records show why the complete service code and term must remain visible in search and procurement.
