Fortinet FAP-231G and FAP-233G Selection Guide
Compare internal and external antenna models, preserve the regulatory suffix and validate power and FortiOS compatibility before deployment.
The antenna architecture is the primary model boundary
Fortinet describes both access points as enterprise indoor Wi-Fi 6E models with three radios and two spatial streams. They support 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz operation, a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port and an integrated BLE/ZigBee radio.

Do not treat 231G and 233G as interchangeable merely because their radio and Ethernet descriptions are similar. The RF design, mounting record and approved antenna configuration must match the exact model.
Keep the regulatory suffix in the order
Fortinet's ordering format is FAP-231G-[RC] and FAP-233G-[RC], where the suffix is a regulatory-region code. Fortinet release notes show that available channels and DFS behavior can change by region code and software release.
The D and B product records below are therefore separate order lines. This guide does not infer a destination country from the letter alone. Confirm the installation country, current Fortinet region mapping and permitted 5 GHz/6 GHz operation before purchase and activation.
Power accessories are ordered separately
Fortinet's ordering information directs buyers to an 802.3at PoE injector or supported AC adapter for both models. The current Fortinet wireless-accessories data sheet lists SP-FAP200 and SP-FAP250 adapter families as supported for FAP-231G/233G. Validate the selected power method, cable run and available PoE budget against the current installation documentation.
Record the managing platform and software release
Fortinet introduced FAP-231G and FAP-233G support with a special FortiAP 7.2.1 build and documents compatibility in its current FortiAP/FortiOS matrix. Before rollout, record the FortiGate, FortiEdge Cloud or SASE management architecture and verify the exact software combination.
- Specify the complete model and regulatory suffix.
- Confirm internal versus external antenna requirements.
- Validate country approval and permitted channels.
- Check PoE or AC adapter requirements.
- Verify the current FortiAP/FortiOS compatibility matrix.
- Pilot adoption, radio operation and client behavior on the delivered PID.
Exact product records
Use the full regulatory order line; do not shorten either record to the base AP model.
