Decide which eight endpoints need Gigabit copper

The 98011315 hardware description separates the sixteen copper connections into eight Fast Ethernet ports and eight Gigabit Ethernet ports. The front reference labels the two groups FE and GE. Reserve the GE group for endpoints requiring 10/100/1000BASE-T; the other eight connections are 10/100BASE-T. Four GE SFP ports provide the separate optical group. S2730S-S16FT4S-A does not support PoE, so a powered terminal needs its own appropriate supply arrangement.

Keep the optical path inside the exact model limit

Huawei explicitly restricts supported optical modules to a distance of 10 km or less for this model. A longer-reach optic listed for another S2730S variant is not an approved substitute on the strength of the family name. Record the required link distance, fibre type and peer interface before choosing the transceiver. The four GE SFP service positions remain distinct from SFP+ parts that the matched-parts table qualifies for stacking only.

Separate cold startup from sustained operation

At elevations from 0 to 1800 m, the stated long-term operating range is −5°C to +50°C. Above 1800 m, the upper temperature falls by 1°C for each additional 220 m, up to the 5000 m operating altitude ceiling. Startup below 0°C is prohibited in the specification remarks. An installation expected to resume power in a sub-zero cabinet therefore needs a startup plan; quoting the −5°C operating floor alone does not resolve that condition.

Budget switch input power without a PoE allowance

The built-in AC supply is rated for 100–240 V at 50/60 Hz, with a listed input range of 90–290 V at 45–65 Hz. Huawei gives 22.7 W typical and 28.1 W maximum switch consumption. There are no power-module slots and neither redundant power nor RPS input is supported. These figures describe the chassis load rather than a power budget available to connected endpoints. The single built-in fan adjusts speed intelligently, drawing air from the left and front and exhausting to the right.

Check cabinet clearance and the management connection

The 1U metal chassis has basic dimensions of 43.6 × 442 × 220 mm, in height, width and depth. Its maximum depth including protruding parts is 227 mm. Unpackaged weight is 2.24 kg. Allow separately for rear protrusions, cable bends and the side ventilation path. The management interface listed here is an RJ45 console; a dedicated Ethernet management port and USB are not supported.

Order stacking media by its explicit use restriction

The matched-parts rows include SFP-10G-AOC3M, part 02310QWG, as a 3 m AOC cable and SFP-10G-AOC10M, part 02310QWH, as a 10 m AOC cable. Both support V200R020C10 and later and are marked used only for stacking. That qualification governs these entries even though their names contain 10G. Confirm the stack layout and supplied software with the quote instead of treating either cable as a general-purpose 10G service uplink.

Verify the offered unit before planning a software downgrade

V200R020C10 is the first supported software version in the exact hardware record. Component changes can prevent some units from being downgraded. Huawei identifies display system-software information, available from V200R021C00, for checking supported versions on the actual device. Obtain the offered hardware revision and loaded release rather than equate a first-supported release with installed firmware. The official image is a model reference; condition, power cord, optics and stacking accessories require explicit quotation lines.
