Seven I/O positions in a nine-slot chassis

N7K-C7009 is the 14RU Cisco Nexus 7000 chassis with seven I/O slots and two dedicated supervisor positions. The exact base order includes fan trays and no power supply. Specify the required supervisors, line cards, fabric modules and power separately before assessing the system as a complete switch.

Check the fabric generation before reusing parts

Cisco lists Fabric2 module support for the nine-slot platform and explicitly excludes Fabric1 modules. This restriction matters when moving components from another Nexus 7000 enclosure. Record the exact module inventory and intended NX-OS release rather than assuming that a shared series name makes an existing fabric assembly usable.

Provide lateral cooling and split maintenance access

The chassis uses side-to-side airflow. I/O modules, supervisors and fabric modules are accessed from the front, while power supplies and fan trays are reached from the rear. Reserve both the lateral cooling path and rear service clearance when planning a rack position; the airflow differs from the ten-slot front-to-back design.

Review the support contract and migration timing

Cisco’s exact N7K-C7009 notice records end of sale on February 28, 2022 and last support on February 28, 2027, subject to entitlement. Contract renewal ended May 29, 2026. Confirm existing coverage before a legacy expansion and compare the needed interfaces and software functions with the migration proposal. A listed successor is not proof that the installed modules transfer to it.
