FP8130-K9 Hardware Identity

FP8130-K9 is a physical classic NGIPS appliance in the Cisco FirePOWER 8000 Series 8100 family. It is security hardware, not an Ethernet switch and not a software-only entitlement. Cisco documents it as a 1U CHAS chassis designation with 4 Gbps IPS throughput in Cisco's model table.

Standalone four-gigabit sensor

Size this standalone appliance for the complete inspected traffic mix and reserve headroom for policy and event bursts. Itemize all network modules and optics and verify which links use configurable bypass. Do not plan capacity around an 8140 stacking feature that Cisco does not list for the 8130.

Module-preserving replacement

Capture the exact copper, fiber, SR and LR handoffs before migration so the replacement design preserves reach and bypass intent without assuming legacy modules can be reused. Export policy and event destinations, test the alternate path, and keep the unsupported appliance out of the rollback plan after acceptance.

Change rollback

Keep a pre-change traffic baseline, cable map and policy checksum. Define rollback criteria that restore inspection safely without reintroducing an unsupported configuration as the permanent state.

Bypass behavior

Test fail-open or fail-closed behavior for every inline pair and document the business consequence. Preserve a labeled physical bypass path for maintenance and migration.

Recovery ownership

Assign owners for traffic bypass, policy restoration, manager recovery and evidence review. Include a timed rehearsal so the recovery plan is operational rather than a document-only control.

Cisco's compatibility guide records end of support on December 31, 2022. Before purchase or reuse, reconcile the exact serial inventory, software and management compatibility, security-content availability, policy migration and replacement owner. Do not represent an end-of-support platform as a current Cisco-supported security control.
