FP8120-K9 Hardware Identity

FP8120-K9 is a physical classic NGIPS appliance in the Cisco FirePOWER 8000 Series 8100 family. It is security hardware, not an Ethernet switch and not a software-only entitlement. Cisco documents it as a 1U CHAS chassis designation with 2 Gbps IPS throughput in Cisco's model table.

Two-gigabit inspection boundary

Measure the combined load of every module rather than assigning two gigabits to each link. Record packet profile, security policy and logging overhead, and reserve a migration threshold below saturation. The receiving test must confirm module media and bypass behavior because the base PID does not identify them.

Smallest 8100 migration

Use this lower-capacity platform as the first 8100 migration candidate. Build a replacement interface map, convert policy, validate events and remove the legacy route from the rollback window once stable. Preserve the old configuration for audit, not as an indefinite production recovery dependency.

Monitoring placement

State whether each link is passive, inline or bypass-capable and identify asymmetric routing risks. Validate that both directions of the intended flow reach the same inspection policy.

Event evidence

Generate representative intrusion, connection and health events and confirm timestamps, retention and forwarding to the approved monitoring system before accepting the appliance.

Lifecycle exception

If this retired platform remains in service, record the approved exception, compensating controls, replacement date and security owner. Purchasability in the secondary market is not supportability.

Cisco's compatibility guide records end of support on December 31, 2022. Before purchase or reuse, reconcile the exact serial inventory, software and management compatibility, security-content availability, policy migration and replacement owner. Do not represent an end-of-support platform as a current Cisco-supported security control.
