ASR1002-10G/K9 Legacy 10G Router Order

ASR1002-10G/K9 is the original fixed Cisco ASR 1002 configuration documented with ESP-10G, AESK9 and 4 GB DRAM. Cisco's lifecycle table identifies ASR1002X-10G-K9 as its replacement; this is not an ASR1002-X order and should not inherit the newer platform's interfaces or throughput tiers.

10G order identity

The exact PID establishes the ESP-10G order level. Acceptance should match chassis and ESP PIDs, serial numbers, memory, installed IOS XE image and forwarding behavior. The AESK9 designation alone does not prove that IPsec licenses, firewall features, HA entitlements, optics or support contracts are included.

Four-port base chassis boundary

Cisco describes the original ASR1002 base chassis with four built-in Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, dual power supplies and 4 GB DRAM. Record the actual RP, SIP, SPA modules, storage, power supplies and transceivers instead of substituting specifications from ASR1002-X or another ASR 1000 chassis.

Not the 5G VPN bundle

The related ASR1002-5G-VPN/K9 order carries an ESP-5G and a documented IPsec RTU license. This 10G record is a base AESK9 hardware order; no VPN or firewall feature bundle should be inferred without separate license evidence from the device and purchase record.

End-of-support procurement

Cisco ended sale of this ASR1002 generation on April 29, 2016 and lists April 30, 2021 as the last support date. IOS XE 3.16 was the final extended-support release and 3.17 the final standard-support release in the notice. Procurement therefore requires a documented image, security exposure review, tested configuration export, spare strategy and migration approval.
