Preserve the original ASR1002 security and HA bundle identity

ASR1002-10G-SHA/K9 is the original ASR1002 security-plus-high-availability bundle. Cisco’s exact ordering row lists ESP-10G, AESK9, license and 4 GB DRAM. Its SHA designation differs from the separate HA-only, VPN-only and VPN-plus-firewall rows; the quotation must identify which configuration is being supplied.

Inspect the ESP rather than assuming a processor generation

The original ASR1002 accepts a field-replaceable embedded services processor. This bundle’s documented component is ESP-10G. The chassis-integrated route processor and SIP have different replacement boundaries, while SPAs can be changed separately. Record the fitted processor labels and hardware inventory when replacing an incumbent unit.

Map adapters and optics to the existing links

Cisco documents a built-in four-port Gigabit Ethernet SFP arrangement and three half-height SPA positions on the ASR1002 platform. Inventory the adapters in those positions and their compatible transceivers before migration. The official front-view drawing contains example modules; it is neither a supplied-parts list nor proof that those adapters accompany this order.

Translate high availability into a reviewed configuration

The platform supports 1+1 redundant AC or DC power supplies. Confirm the actual supply type, independent feeds and intended software-redundancy configuration using the offered unit records. An HA ordering label does not establish that every dependency is installed or configured. A maintenance plan needs a backup, tested recovery sequence and agreed interruption window.

Treat this as an ended-support platform

Cisco EOL10291 explicitly lists ASR1002-10G-SHA/K9. Its end-of-sale date was April 29, 2016 and the last hardware-support date was April 30, 2021. Evaluate spare-part availability and software-maintenance risk before purchasing a legacy replacement. A seller’s condition or warranty statement cannot extend the manufacturer timeline.

Assess successors and real traffic independently

ASR1002X-10G-SHAK9 is the migration PID named in that historical notice. Check its current lifecycle and software rights before treating it as an available replacement. For the original ESP-10G bundle, verify routing and security behavior with the intended service mix; the processor designation is not an unconditional guarantee for all encrypted or inspected traffic.
