ASR1002-5G-VPN/K9 Legacy VPN Bundle

ASR1002-5G-VPN/K9 is Cisco's original ASR 1002 5 Gbps VPN order. Cisco's security-bundle table identifies ESP5, the SASR1R1-AESK9-21SR software package and FLASR1-IPSEC-RTU. It is a physical router bundle with an IPsec right-to-use component, not a standalone license page.

VPN bundle contents

The exact order supports an IPsec procurement use case, but the installed license state still needs to be proven from the serial-number record and device output. Validate crypto eligibility, IOS XE image, tunnel behavior and throughput under the intended packet profile. The official table does not list a firewall feature license for this SKU.

5G hardware boundary

ESP-5G distinguishes this order from the ASR1002-10G/K9 ESP-10G base configuration. Do not market it as a 10G entitlement or substitute ASR1002-X specifications. Cisco's original ASR1002 reference is a four-built-in-GE, dual-power-supply chassis with 4 GB DRAM; installed SPA interfaces and optics remain order-specific.

License and accessory reconciliation

Record chassis, ESP and module PIDs, both power supplies, memory, storage and all transceivers. Reconcile FLASR1-IPSEC-RTU and the AES package against the actual device. HA, firewall, AVC, support and later subscriptions are separate unless independently documented.

Unsupported platform decision

Cisco ended sale on April 29, 2016 and ended support on April 30, 2021, naming ASR1002X-5G-VPNK9 as the replacement. The lifecycle notice also identifies IOS XE 3.16 as the last extended-support release and 3.17 as the last standard-support release. Deployment should proceed only with an explicit security exception and migration plan.
