A9K-MPA-2X100G-FC is Cisco's Cisco ASR 9000 two-port 100 Gigabit Ethernet Modular Port Adapter FCM order variant. The defining purchase fact is two independent 100GE interfaces in one modular-port-adapter assembly.

When dual ports matter

The two-port adapter is used where a single MPA bay must provide dual 100GE handoffs. Both optical paths, peer capabilities and FEC settings need independent acceptance. A design may use the ports for separate peers, protected paths or capacity growth, but the order code itself does not create redundancy. Routing, optics, cabling and peer design establish the actual service behavior.

Bay placement is not interchangeable

Cisco documents the 2-port 100GE MPA in both bays of a 400G modular line card and in bay 0 of a 200G modular line card. Record the host modular-line-card PID and intended bay before ordering. Cisco chassis membership by itself is not a sufficient compatibility test.

Two optical acceptance records

Cisco documents CFP2 or CPAK optics for the corresponding A9K-MPA-2X100GE adapter. Treat each port as its own acceptance item: optic PID and revision, wavelength, reach, fiber plant, FEC mode, peer capability and received power all need validation.

Commercial identity

Confirm that the delivered PID is the FC/FCM order variant, not the standard A9K-MPA-2X100GE or a consumption-model SKU. The quote should separately identify the MPA, optics, line card, licenses or consumption entitlement, cables and support.
