Coherent 200GE Deployment Boundary

A9K-MPA-1X200G-FC identifies the Cisco ASR 9000 one-port 200 Gigabit Ethernet Modular Port Adapter FCM order variant. Its single 200GE interface and coherent-optic workflow make it materially different from the 100GE and multiport SFP+ products.

CFP2-DCO is the primary gate

Cisco identifies CFP2-DCO optics for the corresponding A9K-MPA-1X200GE adapter in IOS XR support documentation. This coherent 200GE path has different optical and FEC acceptance requirements from the 100GE MPAs. Confirm CFP2-DCO hardware revision, wavelength plan and peer interoperability before installation. The procurement record should include the exact optical module, hardware revision and peer design; “CFP2” without the DCO and interoperability details is not an adequate match.

Optical engineering acceptance

Before installation, document channel plan, wavelength, launch and receive limits, FEC behavior, fiber loss budget and the remote endpoint. Keep these values with the change record so an apparently healthy link is not accepted on unsupported assumptions.

Platform and IOS XR qualification

The adapter requires an ASR 9000 modular line card and a supported IOS XR release; chassis membership alone does not prove the exact line-card, bay and software combination. Verify the Cisco compatibility documentation for the precise chassis, modular line card, bay and running release before shipment.

Avoid speed-based substitution

Confirm the FC/FCM order variant and do not substitute a 1x100GE or 2x100GE MPA solely because the faceplate form factor is similar. A pair of 100GE ports is not automatically equivalent to one coherent 200GE interface for optics, operations or peer requirements.
