Single-100GE MPA Selection Note

A9K-MPA-1X100G-FC is Cisco's Cisco ASR 9000 one-port 100 Gigabit Ethernet Modular Port Adapter FCM order variant. It supplies one 100GE interface where a design calls for a simple high-speed handoff rather than dual-port diversity or dense 10GE fan-out.

Confirm the topology before choosing one port

This provides a single 100GE handoff and is not the dual-port 2X100G variant. Confirm whether one protected path is sufficient or whether port diversity is required. The network design must state what happens during optic, fiber or peer failure; a single physical interface has no built-in alternate path.

Optic choice remains separate

Cisco documents CFP2 or CPAK optics for the corresponding A9K-MPA-1X100GE adapter. Match optic PID, connector, reach, wavelength, fiber type and remote endpoint. Do not interpret the adapter description as evidence that a transceiver ships with it.

Host qualification checklist

Use only with a compatible ASR 9000 modular line card, supported bay and qualified IOS XR/optic combination. Capture the chassis, host modular line card, bay, IOS XR release and required FEC mode in the purchase approval rather than checking compatibility after delivery.

Exact FC/FCM receiving scope

Match the FC/FCM PID and verify the optic and line card separately; the MPA order code does not establish that either is bundled. The serial and PID should agree with the purchase order, and any license or consumption entitlement should be reconciled before the maintenance window.
