High-Density 10GE Planning Guide

A9K-MPA-20X10G-FC is the Cisco ASR 9000 twenty-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Modular Port Adapter FCM order variant. It concentrates twenty 10GE client or network connections into an ASR 9000 MPA position; it is not a 100GE breakout description.

Build the optic bill first

Cisco documents SFP+ optics for the corresponding A9K-MPA-20X10GE adapter. This is the high-density 10GE choice in the group. Validate the complete SFP+ bill, fiber type, reach and patching schedule for all twenty ports rather than treating the module as a 100GE adapter. Capture connector type, single-mode or multimode plant, target reach and approved optic PID for every link. A module-only quote does not prove that any SFP+ transceiver is included.

Capacity and cabling review

Twenty physical interfaces create a different operational task from one or two high-speed ports. Reserve panel positions, label both ends, document spare-optic policy and confirm that monitoring and configuration templates cover the complete port set.

200G line-card population exception

Cisco notes that the 20-port 10GE MPA is an exception to the normal two-MPA arrangement on a 200G modular line card; exact bay population must follow the line-card guide. Do not infer that two identical high-density adapters can occupy both bays without checking the exact hardware guide and software release.

FCM order control

Match the FC/FCM PID and verify that required SFP+ transceivers are separately included in the purchase scope when needed. Reconcile adapter PID, serial, entitlement, IOS XR support and host line card during receiving.
