OFFICIAL-SOURCE MEDIA AND SLOT SELECTION

Fortinet Transceiver Compatibility and Media Selection Guide

Compare exact Fortinet transceiver PIDs by host slot, Ethernet rate, media, connector and reach before approving the optical or copper link.

Match the exact PID to the link architecture

Form factor alone does not establish compatibility. The host port must support the exact module type and rate, while the installed plant must match the specified copper, multimode or single-mode media and connector.

Exact PIDRate and formReachMedia and connectorOrder-line distinction
FN-TRAN-SFX100M SFP, SGMII2 kmMMF, duplex LCRequires an SFP host with an SGMII interface.
FN-TRAN-FX100M SFP2 kmMMF, duplex LCHost must support 10/100M mode selection.
FN-TRAN-FE-4PACKFour 100M SFP modules100 mCopper, RJ45The order is a four-pack, not a single transceiver.
FN-TRAN-GC1G SFP100 mCopper, RJ451000BASE-T copper interface.
FN-TRAN-SX1G SFP220 m or 500 mMMF, duplex LCReach depends on the installed multimode fiber.
FN-TRAN-SFP2-SX2.5G SFP300 mMMF, duplex LC2.5G order line; do not treat it as the 1G SX PID.
FN-TRAN-SFP2-LX2.5G SFP25 kmSMF, duplex LCLong-range 2.5G single-mode order line.
FN-TRAN-SFP+GC10G SFP+30 mCat6A copper, RJ4510GBASE-T module for SFP+ slots.
FN-TRAN-SFP+SR10G SFP+300 m OM3; 550 m OM4MMF, duplex LCShort-reach optical module; plant grade controls reach.
FN-TRAN-SFP+LR10G SFP+10 kmSMF, duplex LCStandard-temperature 1310 nm LR order line; do not substitute the industrial LRI or shorter-reach LRM PID.
FN-TRAN-SFP+BD2710G SFP+ BiDi30 kmSMF, single LCPairs with FN-TRAN-SFP+BD33, ordered separately.
FN-TRAN-QSFP+BIDI40G QSFP+ BiDi100 m OM3; 150 m OM4MMF, duplex LCDuplex-LC BiDi design, not an MPO SR4 module.
FN-TRAN-QSFP+LRI40G QSFP+10 kmSMF, duplex LCIndustrial-temperature LR4 order line.
FN-TRAN-QSFP28-SR100G QSFP28100 mOM4 MMF, MPO-12Four-channel parallel short-reach module; TAA compliant.
FN-TRAN-QSFP28-DR100G QSFP28500 mSMF, duplex LCSingle-mode DR link; not the MPO-12 SR order line.
FN-TRAN-QSFP56-SR4200G QSFP56100 mMMF, MPO-12Four-channel parallel short-reach module.
FN-TRAN-QSFP56-FR4200G QSFP562 kmSMF, duplex LCFR4 single-mode order line for QSFP56 slots.

Compatibility must be proved at both ends

The Fortinet transceiver data sheet identifies module characteristics and states that Fortinet modules are tested for Fortinet equipment. It does not make every module valid in every Fortinet port. Record the exact host model, port, software release, supported speed and far-end module before ordering.

  1. Confirm the host slot accepts the exact SFP, SFP+, QSFP28 or QSFP56 order line.
  2. Match copper, multimode or single-mode media and the RJ45, duplex LC, single LC or MPO-12 connector.
  3. For BiDi links, order and install the complementary transmit and receive wavelength pair.
  4. Keep industrial-temperature suffixes and pack quantities in the receiving record.
  5. Recheck current platform compatibility documentation before the maintenance window.

Capture link evidence, not only a link light

Receiving should verify the exact PID, label, quantity, serial and connector. Commissioning should record both endpoint PIDs, negotiated rate, optical readings where available, error counters and the tested traffic path. A powered module does not prove that the rate, reach, wavelength pair or software support is correct.
