PTX10008 Eight-Slot Core Transport Platform

PTX10008 is the eight-line-card member of Juniper's modular PTX10000 family. The 13RU chassis supports a 115.2Tbps to 230.4Tbps system-capacity range with SF5 fabric and provides 28.8Tbps per slot at the upper fabric generation. It is intended for deployments where slot growth and aggregate core capacity take priority over maximum chassis-per-rack density.

Scale-out chassis planning

Eight line-card slots let a design distribute interfaces across more replaceable modules and reserve positions for later expansion. Juniper lists a maximum fully configured weight of about 421lb (191kg) and three chassis per standard rack. Rack loading, service clearance, lifting method and cable-management capacity therefore belong in the site-acceptance plan before the chassis arrives.

Fabric and bundle boundaries

PTX10008 is a platform identifier, not a complete declaration of the installed Routing Engines, switch-fabric cards, power supplies or line cards. Juniper offers BASE and PREM configurations with different SF3 or SF5 populations. The purchase order must name the exact bundle suffix, fabric generation, redundancy level, power input and interface cards; none of those choices should be inferred from the bare PTX10008 model.

Core deployment acceptance

Record every slot assignment, fabric-card position and power feed in the build sheet. Confirm that the chosen fabric generation supports the planned aggregate bandwidth, then test control-plane redundancy, fabric failover, cooling alarms and all installed optics. Inline MACsec and 800GbE capability also depend on the selected hardware and software combination and must be validated against the final Junos design.
