PTX5000 is a large modular transport system built around eight vertical FPC positions. Juniper documents scaling to 24Tbps for the platform, but individual FPC generations have different throughput and software requirements. Capacity planning therefore starts with the installed module inventory, not the chassis label alone.
PICs provide media-facing interfaces and install in compatible FPCs; FPCs connect those interfaces to the switch planes. Record each FPC and PIC PID, port breakout, optic, minimum Junos release and licensed throughput. An empty position requires its prescribed blanking and cooling treatment.
The system design includes routing engines, control boards and switch interface boards in addition to interface modules. Capture active and backup roles, firmware or Junos state, fabric generation and failover results. Similar-looking FRUs from another PTX generation are not automatically interchangeable.
Before movement or installation, complete structural, lifting, service-clearance, airflow and power studies for the exact populated chassis. AC versus DC distribution, feed redundancy and thermal output must come from the configured hardware record rather than a generic PTX5000 description.
