PTX10004 Compact Four-Slot Transport Chassis

PTX10004 packages four line-card slots into a 7RU modular platform for space-constrained core, peering and transport locations. Juniper specifies 57.6Tbps to 115.2Tbps of system capacity with SF5 fabric, with as much as 28.8Tbps available to each slot when the matching fabric and line-card generation is selected.

Rack-density advantage

The shorter chassis supports as many as six systems in a standard rack and has a listed maximum fully configured weight of about 271.2lb (116.7kg). Those figures make it materially different from the eight-slot PTX10008: PTX10004 favors compact fault domains and chassis density, while providing fewer line-card positions per routing system.

Configuration must follow the suffix

The bare PTX10004 name identifies the chassis family only. Juniper's BASE and PREM ordering configurations vary in Routing Engine count, SF3 or SF5 fabric population, power supplies and redundancy. Quote review must retain the complete ordering suffix and separately list line cards, optics, airflow and power-input details rather than assuming a standard bill of materials.

Compact-site commissioning

Calculate aggregate bandwidth from the installed fabric and line cards, not from the chassis maximum alone. During acceptance, verify rack-unit allocation, per-rack power and cooling, fabric redundancy, control-plane failover and the cable path for all four slots. Any 800GbE or inline MACsec requirement should be tied to a supported interface, fabric and Junos release in the approved design record.
