A battery-capable optical access switch

Huawei S5700-28P-LI-24S-BAT, part code 98010511, combines a built-in AC supply with a slot for a backup battery or power module. The BAT suffix describes the supported architecture; confirm the installed module and its condition in the quotation. It does not establish that a battery is included. The front panel provides 20 dedicated 100/1000BASE-X interfaces, four copper/fiber combo interfaces and four additional 1000BASE-X uplinks. A combo pair uses one medium at a time. These are Gigabit uplinks, not general-purpose 10GE ports.

Choose the backup module and its supporting equipment

Supported battery options are BAT-4AHA and BAT-8AHA rechargeable lithium-ion modules, or the PBB-12AHA lead-acid charging module. PBB-12AHA requires an external lead-acid battery with a rated capacity of 12 Ah; the charging module alone is not a complete battery supply. The slot can alternatively accept a 150 W AC or DC power module. Huawei supports hot swapping of the backup power and battery modules. The switch does not support RPS, PoE or stacking, so do not transfer those features from other S5700-LI variants.

Interpret runtime against the documented load

Huawei gives backup times for batteries at initial capacity and full charge. At maximum switch consumption, BAT-4AHA is listed at 1.2 hours and BAT-8AHA at 2.3 hours. With 70% of ports up and 10% traffic per port, the figures are 2.1 and 4.2 hours. With no ports in use at minimum consumption, they become 4.1 and 8.3 hours. These are different test conditions, not a single guaranteed outage duration. Runtime decreases as the battery ages; verify battery health, charge state and actual traffic before setting a continuity requirement.

Check the module-dependent installation limits

The enclosure is 442 x 310 x 43.6 mm with two fans moving air from left to right; the 3.6 kg figure includes packaging. Maximum consumption is 34.1 W at full traffic and full fan speed. The normal working range is 0–45 degrees Celsius up to 1800 m; above that, reduce the upper limit by 1 degree per 220 m. A DC power module limits operating altitude to 2000 m, while other configurations allow up to 5000 m. Lithium-battery storage is -20 to 60 degrees Celsius; lead-acid storage must follow the selected battery requirements.
