Plan four powered ports against one shared budget

FG-70G-POE is a wired FortiGate desktop appliance with four Gigabit PoE/+ ports and 60 W total available PoE power. Fortinet specifies a maximum of 30 W on each powered port under 802.3at. Four loads at that maximum would require 120 W, exceeding the shared 60 W allowance. Inventory the intended access points, phones or other powered devices and their operating requirements; a per-port limit does not mean every socket can provide that limit simultaneously.

Allocate the remaining Ethernet connections

The exact ordering row lists ten Gigabit RJ45 connections: four internal, four PoE and two WAN. The interface table presents the non-PoE portion as two accelerated WAN, two RJ45 and two FortiLink interfaces by default. Do not add these role descriptions together or count FortiLink as extra physical ports. Reserve ordinary links for the intended uplink or switch design and confirm configured roles before commissioning. There is also one USB and one RJ45 console connection.

Choose the no-SSD, non-wireless variant deliberately

The FG-70G-POE column has no internal SSD. The separate FG-71G-POE order adds 64 GB storage; the FortiWiFi 70G-POE order has radios. PoE output is not built-in Wi-Fi, and powered ports do not provide local disk capacity. Specify the external logging destination if retention is required, and confirm any subscriptions and serial-specific service eligibility independently of the appliance identifier.

Order the matching maintenance adapter and mounting parts

The official 70G and 50G accessory tables use different spare-adapter order suffixes for overlapping PoE models. Confirm the current PoE-approved order with Fortinet before specifying a replacement assembly; the tables do not establish that the suffixes are interchangeable. The listed power cable is sold separately, and an accessory table is not a promise about the contents of an individual appliance package. The same accessory table excludes the FG-7xG-POE family from SP-EAR-FG90G-10 mounting ears; do not order those ears merely because another 70G variant is listed. Confirm an applicable mounting arrangement and the supplied power assembly for this exact chassis.

Keep the published performance test in context

The exact FG-70G-POE column publishes up-to 2.5 Gbps IPS, 1.5 Gbps NGFW and 1.3 Gbps threat protection with enterprise traffic mix and logging enabled. These inspection profiles differ from the separate basic UDP firewall test of 10 Gbps. Size the chosen features and real traffic rather than treating one laboratory figure as a universal throughput guarantee. The operating ambient range is 0-40 degrees Celsius.
