ASR1004-40G-NB Complete Network Bundle

ASR1004-40G-NB has a component list that Cisco states explicitly: ASR1004 chassis, ASR1000-RP2, ASR1000-ESP40, ASR1000-SIP40, four SPA-1X10GE-L-V2 modules and SASR1R2-AESK9 software.

Four physical 10GE SPAs are included

Unlike ASR1004-10G/K9 and ASR1004-20G/K9, this NB order names four single-port 10GE SPAs. Verify all four SPA labels and serials, but treat transceivers and fiber as separate unless the receiving BOM explicitly lists them.

RP2, ESP40 and SIP40 form one architecture

The modules are not cosmetic bundle suffixes. Validate RP2 boot state, ESP40 forwarding health, SIP40/SPA compatibility and the installed IOS XE release. Cisco lists 8GB DRAM for ESP40 in the modular ASR1004 class.

NB does not mean a VPN feature bundle

The order includes AESK9 software, but Cisco lists VPN and security bundles under different PIDs. Do not claim IPsec, firewall or other feature entitlements without current license evidence from the actual system.

Forty-gigabit capacity needs a real test

Four 10GE SPA ports match the physical bundle, while usable encrypted or services throughput depends on traffic mix, packet size, features and licenses. Capture counters and run an acceptance test representative of the intended edge role.

Lifecycle and migration control

The ASR1004 platform reached end of sale April 29, 2020 and last support April 30, 2025. Cisco's notice names ASR1002-HX or ASR1006-X migration paths; choose a supported target from required ports, redundancy and measured capacity.
