ASR1004-10G/K9 Legacy Router Bundle

ASR1004-10G/K9 combines the ASR1004 chassis with an ESP-10G, RP1, SIP10 and AESK9. Cisco documents 2GB DRAM for the ESP-10 class; that ESP specification is separate from route-processor memory and installed interface capacity.

10G is not a port-count promise

The order description does not name a SPA. A usable WAN port requires a compatible SPA, optics/cabling and an IOS XE combination supported by the actual modules. Confirm these line items rather than treating the 10G suffix as an onboard 10GE interface.

Lower ESP tier than the 20G PID

ASR1004-20G/K9 substitutes ESP-20G while retaining RP1 and SIP10 in its exact description. Choose between the two from measured aggregate forwarding, crypto, QoS and services demand, not only nominal interface speed.

Keep the NB bundle separate

ASR1004-40G-NB is materially different: Cisco explicitly lists RP2, ESP40, SIP40 and four SPA-1X10GE-L-V2 modules. None of those upgraded parts should be copied into the ASR1004-10G/K9 inventory.

Obsolescence affects deployment

ASR1004 end of sale was April 29, 2020; planned vulnerability/security support ended April 29, 2023; all Cisco support ended April 30, 2025. Reuse requires an accepted unsupported-software risk and a replacement schedule.

Physical and software acceptance

Inspect chassis and dual supplies, verify ESP-10G/RP1/SIP10 labels and serials, inventory every separately supplied SPA, test console and management access, export the configuration, and record IOS XE and license status.
