ASR1004 Base Chassis Procurement Scope

ASR1004 is the base Cisco ASR 1004 chassis PID. Cisco's ordering information describes it as the chassis with dual power supplies. It is distinct from C1-ASR1004/K9, which is a Cisco ONE commercial ordering PID, and from throughput or application bundles that name installed processors and licenses.

Four-rack-unit slot layout

The hardware guide documents an 8-SPA, 4RU chassis with one Embedded Services Processor slot, one route-processor slot and two SIP slots. The platform supports up to 40 Gbps depending on the selected ESP and configuration. It has no built-in data interfaces, so usable ports depend on separately selected SIP/SPA or supported Ethernet line-card hardware.

Bill-of-materials gate

Do not accept an ASR1004 quote from the chassis PID alone. Record the RP, ESP, each SIP or Ethernet line card, every SPA and optic, memory, AC or DC power choice, airflow accessories, IOS XE image and required licenses. Confirm that every component is supported together in the intended software release.

Single-control-plane boundary

The ASR 1004 has one RP slot and one ESP slot. Cisco describes software redundancy for this platform, unlike the dual-RP and dual-ESP hardware redundancy available on larger ASR 1000 chassis. The maintenance and failure-domain plan must therefore reflect the actual single-slot architecture.

Receiving test

Verify PID ASR1004, serial, 4RU chassis condition, both power supplies, fan and airflow state, installed RP/ESP/SIP inventory, interface modules and license records. Boot the agreed IOS XE release, validate all populated ports and preserve the final bill of materials for future spare and migration work.

Lifecycle planning

Cisco has announced end of sale for the ASR1004 modular platform. Confirm support eligibility and the last supported software boundary before procurement, then compare ASR1002-HX and ASR1006-X migration paths according to modularity and redundancy requirements.
