ASR1004-20G/K9 Component Boundary

ASR1004-20G/K9 is Cisco's ASR1004 modular router bundle with an ESP-20G, RP1, SIP10 and AESK9 software package. The 20G identity refers to the included Embedded Services Processor class, not to twenty physical Gigabit Ethernet ports.

No SPA is stated in this order

Cisco's exact PID description stops at the chassis, ESP-20G, RP1, SIP10 and AESK9. Interface SPAs, optics and cables must be listed separately in the source BOM. Do not infer four 10GE ports from the ASR1004-40G-NB network bundle.

ESP and SIP must be matched

The ESP-20G provides the bundle's forwarding-service tier, while SIP10 carries compatible SPA modules. Record both module PIDs and serials, then validate the intended SPA type, IOS XE release and feature load before commissioning.

Why it differs from the 10G order

ASR1004-10G/K9 uses ESP-10G with RP1 and SIP10. The 20G order raises the ESP class but does not itself change the unstated interface inventory; capacity acceptance still requires real traffic, crypto and service-feature measurements.

Platform support has ended

Cisco ended sale of the ASR1004 modular platform on April 29, 2020, ended planned vulnerability/security support on April 29, 2023 and lists April 30, 2025 as the last date of support. A 2026 reuse decision needs a migration owner and security exception.

Receiving checklist

Verify ASR1004 chassis identity, both chassis power supplies, ESP-20G, RP1 and SIP10; inventory any separately supplied SPAs and optics; capture IOS XE, license and configuration state; test redundancy and preserve a recovery copy.
