AIR-ANT2524DB-R identifies Cisco's black single-port articulating dipole for compatible external-antenna Aironet and Catalyst radios. It is one passive antenna and does not contain radio hardware, licensing or an access point.

The antenna covers 2400-2500 MHz and 5150-5850 MHz, with peak gain of 2 dBi and 4 dBi respectively. Cisco specifies 50-ohm nominal impedance, less than 2:1 VSWR and an RP-TNC plug. Those facts are shared with AIR-ANT2524DG-R; black radome color is the exact PID distinction.

Use the connector, not appearance, to qualify fit

Confirm the target device exposes dual-band RP-TNC ports. Cisco lists external-antenna use across selected Aironet 1830/1850/2800/3800 and Catalyst 9115AX/9120AX/9130AX access points, but compatibility depends on the external-antenna model variant. An internal-antenna AP cannot be converted by attaching this spare.

Coverage depends on installation

The dipole provides indoor omnidirectional coverage and articulates through 90 degrees. Preserve spacing and orientation recommended for the AP, avoid nearby conductive obstructions, and do not use the antenna outdoors merely because its black finish matches an enclosure. Cisco rates the environment for indoor office use.

Receiving checklist for a passive spare

Inspect the RP-TNC threads and center contact, verify smooth articulation and reject cracked or deformed radomes. Count each unit: platforms with multiple radio chains commonly need more than one matching antenna. RF cables, lightning protection and the AP are separate components.
