WF-500 hosts a Palo Alto Networks WildFire private cloud for local file analysis. A firewall WildFire Analysis profile selects which matching files or email links are forwarded to that analysis location. This is an analysis appliance used with submitting firewalls, rather than a replacement for their traffic-inspection role.
The official profile documentation describes hybrid analysis: sensitive supported files can be directed to WF-500, while other file types can be sent to the WildFire public cloud. It identifies APK files as an example not supported by WF-500 appliance analysis. Review the required file types and permitted analysis locations before purchase; a private appliance does not mean every file type can be processed locally.
Palo Alto Networks requires a WildFire subscription on NGFWs that forward files to an on-premises WF-500. Do not assume that purchasing the appliance includes the submitting firewalls or their subscriptions. The hardware reference documents redundant power supplies and a DB-9 serial console; confirm the supplied power units, storage condition and installed software in the quotation.
The manufacturer lists WF-500 end of sale as December 31, 2023 and end of life as December 31, 2028, with PAN-OS 11.2 as the last supported OS branch. Check support eligibility and a migration plan against that date. The lifecycle schedule describes the platform and does not establish an active support contract for a particular offered unit.
