M-100 for central management and log collection

M-100 is a Palo Alto Networks management appliance. Its Panorama mode combines central firewall management with log collection; a separate Log Collector mode dedicates it to collecting logs under another Panorama manager. Select the required operating mode before quoting this appliance instead of treating it as an inline traffic-inspection firewall.

Inspect disk pairs and management connections

The chassis has eight drive bays arranged as four pairs. The hardware guide describes RAID 1 drive pairs and allows storage expansion in pairs; confirm the capacity and health of the drives actually fitted to the offered unit. Management access uses a Gigabit RJ-45 MGT port, with a DB-9 serial console available locally. Additional Ethernet-port functions depend on the installed Panorama release, so record the software version with the physical inventory.

Plan a migration from the retired M-100 platform

Palo Alto Networks lists M-100 end of sale as October 31, 2018 and end of life as October 31, 2023. Its lifecycle table distinguishes the final software branch by memory: PAN-OS 8.1 for 16 GB and PAN-OS 9.1 for an appliance upgraded to 32 GB. That historical branch information does not imply current support. Verify RAM, export and retention needs, license transfer eligibility and a replacement plan before purchase; the hardware guide also identifies the rack-mount kit as separately ordered.
