EX4600-40F-DC-AFO Hardware Identity

EX4600-40F-DC-AFO is a Juniper EX4600 fixed-configuration Ethernet switch. Its verified hardware profile is 24 fixed SFP/SFP+ ports and four fixed QSFP+ ports; no copper PoE access ports. The complete code carries DC-powered order form, airflow-out order form. Preserve every suffix on the quote, carton and asset record.

Port and power boundary

two power supplies and five fans shipped by default for non-S model. The uplink configuration is two expansion bays for supported modules. Optics, optional uplink modules, cables and any separately ordered power or mounting items must be reconciled in the final bill of materials.

EX4600 architecture control

EX4600 acceptance should reflect a compact distribution or low-density data-center platform. Reconcile the 24 fixed SFP/SFP+ ports, four fixed QSFP+ ports, two expansion bays, both power supplies and all five fan modules. Decide whether the unit is standalone, an all-EX4600 Virtual Chassis member or part of a supported mixed design, and record the Junos-dependent role. Breakout and expansion counts are design results, not ports included automatically with the base chassis.

Order-form control 1

DC power acceptance requires two documented feed paths where redundancy is designed, correct protective devices, conductor sizing, polarity, grounding and terminal hardware. Measure input before connecting the switch, label each feed and test loss of the approved source. Do not install an AC supply or assume an AC cord is part of this order. Preserve the facility drawing and supply labels with the serial record.

Order-form control 2

AFO acceptance means air enters at the port panel and exhausts through the FRU side, also described as front-to-back airflow. Check all fan and supply labels for AIR OUT or AFO, compare the rack cold-aisle design and preserve photographs. Mixed airflow components are not an acceptable redundant set even when the electrical rating matches.

SKU-specific acceptance

For the DC airflow-out variant, verify return-air direction, terminal hardware and dual-feed protection before accepting the chassis. Use a DC commissioning worksheet that records both feed voltages, breaker references, conductor torque, grounding and AFO airflow. During failure testing, watch power alarms, fan state and traffic continuity. Close the test only after the restored feed is stable and every FRU still reports the expected AIR OUT identity.

Receiving

Check chassis label, power supplies, fan labels, modules and accessories against the exact PID before installation. Quarantine mixed airflow or wrong-input substitutions.

Lifecycle

Review Juniper lifecycle and supported-release information before expanding an older platform. Tie spares and new capacity to a dated migration decision.

Migration evidence

Map VLANs, routing, policy, uplinks, PoE endpoints and monitoring dependencies to the successor design. Close old serials only after service and telemetry are verified.

Airflow match

Record rack cold aisle, intake side and exhaust side. Fan modules and power supplies must use the same airflow direction; a suffix mismatch is a receiving failure.

Junos baseline

Record the approved Junos release and hardware support evidence before staging. Preserve the initial configuration, rescue state and post-upgrade validation.

Uplink plan

Map every uplink speed, optic, breakout, LAG member and peer. Optional uplink modules and transceivers must appear as separate bill-of-material lines where required.
