FML-VM32 Overview

What the FML-VM32 order supplies

FML-VM32 is the 32-vCPU FortiMail virtual-appliance software order in Fortinet's ordering table. It addresses email security on a virtualization platform. The order row identifies VMware ESX/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and KVM. This purchase should not be treated as a physical FortiGate firewall, a thirty-two-port appliance, a host server or an already provisioned cloud service.

Use the exact VM32 order code when asking for activation, registration and fulfillment details. The base identifier has no contract-duration suffix; it does not establish a security-service term or guarantee perpetual support. Verify any associated FortiCare and FortiGuard service codes separately.

Select the larger tier using the right measurements

Fortinet gives VM32 a protected-domain profile of 2,000 configured email domains. Its VM16 profile is 1,500 domains, whereas both columns list 3,000 local mailboxes in Server Mode. The difference between these tiers cannot be reduced to a single user count: the larger CPU allowance and domain profile do not create additional Server Mode mailboxes automatically.

VM32 and VM16 also share the published recipient-policy limits of 1,500 per domain and 7,500 per system for incoming or outgoing policy. Each lists 50 antispam, antivirus, authentication and content profiles per domain and 600 per system. More cores are therefore not a substitute for checking the actual rule and profile ceilings.

The protected-domain footnote defines this measure as domains configured on the appliance. Domain Associations can add domains that use the primary domain's configuration. Record separately configured domains and associated aliases accordingly. The additional advanced-management license can raise the stated protected-domain limit by 50%; that separate entitlement must be quoted, rather than assumed to come with VM32.

Storage and host planning for VM32

The current data-sheet column permits up to 32 virtual CPUs, one to six virtual NICs and 4 GB to 128 GB of VM memory. These values describe software deployment resources. No physical CPU, memory module or interface card is included by those sizing entries.

VM32 has a published 24 TB storage maximum, compared with 12 TB in the VM16 column. Both columns specify 250 GB for initial setup. The footnote requires this initial allocation to install the default Fortinet OVF file, and permits disk space no less than 50 GB after deployment and deletion of that default OVF file. Allocate retention and quarantine storage for the actual mail workload; neither the maximum nor the installation allocation is a disk supplied with this license.

Check the intended mode and installed release on the chosen virtualization environment. Fortinet cautions that Transparent mode is not fully supported on Microsoft Hyper-V and cloud hypervisors because of the available network configurations. The broader supported-platform list must be read together with this caveat and the quotation's commercial deployment rights.

Read processing figures as test evidence

The mail-routing row lists 1.2 million messages per hour for VM32 under the published benchmark conditions. It is an indicative hardware-dependent result without queuing, using a 100 KB message size. The footnote identifies the VMware test system, its processors and the allocated core limit. It is not a universal result for any host assigned 32 vCPUs.

Anti-spam, virus-outbreak, Enterprise ATP and cloud-API processing have their own rows and test figures. A mail-routing rate cannot be transferred to every security path, or translated into a firewall/IPS/VPN bandwidth guarantee. Supply peak flow and typical message sizes for a FortiMail sizing review; the page does not establish a production service-level agreement.

Match each capability to a quoted entitlement

The ordering guide marks VM32 as DLP capable and lists Microsoft 365/Google cloud email API integration as an add-on. FortiGuard antivirus, antispam and virus-outbreak services belong to the Base Bundle entries; cloud sandbox appears under Enterprise ATP. Platform capability and purchased service coverage are distinct checks.

Advanced administration/MSSP features, dynamic image analysis and email continuity are additional offerings. FortiMail Cloud hosted orders use their own mailbox bands, while S-series subscriptions are separate VM options. Confirm the requested contract codes, start date, term, covered features and activation region instead of treating the VM32 name as a complete service bundle.

VM32 quotation checklist

Give the seller the exact FML-VM32 code, virtualization platform and release, required operating mode, CPU/memory allocation, planned disk retention, configured-domain count, recipient-rule/profile counts and any local-mailbox requirement. Have the registration account, entitlement delivery method and separate service coverage confirmed in writing before purchase.

The listed reference price remains US$318.00 and does not confirm inventory or a delivery date. The image is an official Fortinet brand reference rather than a photograph of a supplied server or evidence of an activated license.

VM32 sizing questions

Does VM32 double every VM16 limit?

No. The published CPU, domain and storage allowances differ, while the Server Mode mailbox, recipient-policy and profile counts are the same. Review each sizing dimension independently.

Is the mail-routing test rate guaranteed for my host?

No. The data sheet qualifies its figure by hardware, message size, virtualization test environment and absence of queuing. Validate the actual workload and host configuration.

Does the product include the cloud API service?

The ordering guide lists Microsoft/Google cloud email API integration as an add-on. Confirm that separate entitlement and the covered mail environment.
