Plan around the supported uplink combinations

N9K-C92160YC-X is a 1RU Cisco Nexus switch with 48 individually selectable 1/10/25G downlinks. Its six uplink cages do not provide six simultaneous 100G links. Cisco documents four 100G links on ports 49–52, or two 100G links on ports 50 and 52 alongside four 40G links; six-port 40G operation is also supported.

Port mode and breakout must be checked together

The hardware guide distinguishes default mixed 40/100G operation from a four-100G profile. Breakout eligibility changes with the selected profile and software release. Confirm the exact port numbers, peer devices and cables before committing to a migration; physical cage count alone cannot validate a connection plan.

Verify a matched cooling and power assembly

The chassis uses four fan modules and supports two power supplies for 1+1 redundancy. Cisco requires the supplies to use the same power type and the cooling components to use matching airflow. Check the actual installed parts and optics on the quotation rather than assuming a complete configuration from the switch PID.

The final Cisco support date has passed

Cisco ended sale on March 5, 2021 and lists March 31, 2026 as the final support date. A purchase now should be evaluated as an unsupported legacy-platform decision, not a route to a new manufacturer support term. Review operational risk, spare strategy and replacement compatibility before requesting this model. Historical migration families also require their own current lifecycle checks.
