C9K-F2-SSD-960GB is Cisco's 960GB pluggable M.2 SATA storage module for the Catalyst 9600 supervisor platform. It adds local SSD capacity; it is not switch forwarding memory, system DRAM or a network interface.

Exact platform check

Cisco's Catalyst 9600 release documentation lists this PID as a SATA SSD module for the supervisor and records support from Cisco IOS XE Gibraltar 16.11.1. Before ordering, capture the chassis PID, supervisor PID, active/standby layout and current software release. Do not infer support for another Catalyst family from the C9K prefix alone.

960GB field-notice control

Cisco Field Notice FN70597 identifies a limited serial-number population of this 960GB PID that can fail after 1,700 cumulative idle hours. Check the module serial against Cisco's affected-product validation process. For an affected drive, follow Cisco's firmware-upgrade and TAC instructions rather than treating the notice as a failure of every 960GB unit.

Capacity is not interchangeability

C9K-F2-SSD-480GB is a separately ordered 480GB option. A capacity change requires confirmation of supervisor support, software requirements, storage use, redundancy implications and maintenance procedure; equal connector shape does not prove an approved substitution.

Receiving and acceptance

Record the exact 960GB PID, module serial, chassis and supervisor serials, software release and field-notice result. After installation, verify that the supervisor detects the expected capacity and reports healthy storage without alarms. Retain the pre-change backup and rollback plan.
