C9120AXI-EWC-I combines a Cisco Catalyst 9120AXI indoor access point, integrated internal antennas and an Embedded Wireless Controller image in the I regulatory domain. It is not the external-antenna AXP/AXE variant and is not a standalone Catalyst 9800 appliance.
Confirm that Cisco currently authorizes the I domain for the installation country before ordering. The suffix controls regulatory behavior and cannot be changed by relabeling or by copying another region's radio configuration. C9120AXI-EWC-E is a separate E-domain SKU.
Cisco documents IOS XE 16.12.2 or later as the minimum for C9120AXI-EWC-x. Cisco's lifecycle bulletin states that the final IOS XE train supporting EWC on C91xx Wi-Fi 6 APs is 17.15.x. Record the intended release, upgrade path, supported AP mix and management design rather than assuming current controller features will remain available indefinitely.
The EWC hardware/software SKU reached end of sale on November 29, 2024; Cisco lists November 30, 2029 as the last support date under applicable entitlement. Cisco also states that affected APs can be converted to lightweight CAPWAP mode, after which WLC support follows the non-EWC AP and controller lifecycle. Treat conversion as a planned architecture change, not an automatic license-free continuation.
Preserve the I-domain approval evidence, AP serial, mounting location, controller role, country code and software image. After commissioning, verify EWC election or join behavior, both radio states, management reachability and absence of regulatory alarms. Internal antennas remove cable selection but do not remove placement and local-power compliance requirements.
Official evidence: Cisco EWC data sheet and minimum software table, Cisco Catalyst 9120AX data sheet, Cisco wireless compliance lookup and Cisco EWC lifecycle notice.
