C9120AXI-EWC-E E-Domain WLAN Controller AP

C9120AXI-EWC-E is the E-domain version of the indoor Catalyst 9120AXI with internal antennas and Cisco's Embedded Wireless Controller image. The EWC role lets a supported AP host wireless-control functions, but the product remains an AP platform with specific scale, release and lifecycle constraints.

Country and domain evidence

Validate E-domain approval against Cisco's current country compliance data before shipment or activation. Preserve the approval result with the site design. C9120AXI-EWC-I has a different regulatory suffix and must not be substituted merely because its enclosure and internal antenna layout appear similar.

Software and architecture check

The official EWC data sheet sets IOS XE 16.12.2 as the minimum software for C9120AXI-EWC-x. Before deployment, verify the intended EWC release, supported AP models, upgrade sequence, redundancy approach and client/site requirements. An EWC SKU is not evidence that any AP inventory or arbitrary software combination is supported.

End-of-sale decision

Cisco ended sale of the affected EWC AP products on November 29, 2024 and identifies 17.15.x as the final IOS XE software train for EWC running on C91xx Wi-Fi 6 APs. The bulletin provides a last support date of November 30, 2029 under eligible contracts. New deployments should compare continued EWC operation with conversion to CAPWAP and an external supported WLC.

Receiving and commissioning

Match the -E PID and serial, confirm the internal-antenna enclosure and record country code, software image and intended controller role. Test management access, EWC state, AP joins, radio operation and regulatory status. If migrating to CAPWAP, preserve rollback and controller compatibility evidence before changing mode.
