ASR1K6R2-20-B32/K9 32K Broadband Bundle

ASR1K6R2-20-B32/K9 is Cisco's ASR 1006 broadband bundle built around two ESP-20G modules, two RP2 route processors, a SIP10, the AISK9 feature set and a 32,000-session broadband license. Cisco uses this exact PID without a G after 20 in the bundle BOM and lifecycle table, so it must not be normalized to a different ordering code.

Capacity and component identity

The 32K entitlement is the distinguishing procurement fact. Cisco's ordering guide also names a closely related text-form SKU, ASR1K6R2-20G-B32/K9, when describing 32,000 supported sessions; the exact quote, chassis label and Cisco sales record must match the requested PID. The delivered BOM should contain two ESP-20G and two RP2 components rather than the RP1/ESP-10G combination used by ASR1006-10G-B24/K9 and ASR1006-10G-B16/K9.

How broadband sessions are counted

For LAC and LNS operation, Cisco counts PPP sessions and does not add the number of L2TP tunnels as another session quantity. For L2TP Tunnel Switch operation, licensing is based on the number of switched L2TP tunnels. ISG and PMIPv6 MAG deployments also require their documented feature and session entitlements. Validate the intended subscriber workflow before treating 32K as a universal traffic scale figure.

Lifecycle changes the buying decision

Cisco's amended EOL bulletin lists this bundle among the affected PIDs. The last day to order was 30 December 2013, and the last date of support was 31 December 2018. Procurement should therefore be handled as legacy spares or installed-base support: confirm source, serial/VID, hardware condition, license transferability, software image rights and an approved migration path.

Receiving and acceptance

Match the carton, chassis and electronic inventory to ASR1K6R2-20-B32/K9. Verify both RP2 and ESP-20G modules, SIP10, power supplies, memory, interfaces and license evidence. Record boot diagnostics and IOS XE compatibility, then test routing, subscriber establishment, redundancy switchover and the required session scale in a controlled lab.
