Legacy ASA5525-K9 Purchase Check

ASA5525-K9 identifies the Cisco ASA 5525-X Firewall Edition appliance with 3DES/AES. The official K9 order contains Eight copper Gigabit Ethernet data ports plus one copper Gigabit Ethernet management port, One AC power supply, Active/Active high availability, two security contexts and 750 IPsec VPN peers and 2 SSL VPN peers in Cisco's ordering description.

Do not merge neighboring bundles

ASA5525-K9 is not the CU expansion, SSD120, IPS or FirePOWER Services order. An add-in six-port card, SSD, security subscription or redundant power supply is included only when the received bill of materials and exact PID establish it.

Capacity acceptance for the smaller platform

The 5525-X has a lower documented IPsec peer ceiling than ASA5545-K9. Size replacement capacity from measured traffic, sessions, VPN use and enabled inspection rather than model-name proximity. Collect peak connection rate, concurrent sessions, VPN peers, encrypted throughput and enabled inspection before reuse. A laboratory boot test does not prove production headroom.

Lifecycle changes the buying decision

The Cisco notice gives September 4, 2020 as hardware end of sale and September 30, 2025 as the last date of support. There is no current Cisco hardware support path after that date, so the procurement file needs a migration owner, replacement window, rollback configuration and explicit acceptance of spare-parts risk.

Inspection before commissioning

Verify exact PID and serial, AC supply, interface health, ASA image, encryption license, security contexts and failover configuration. If 750 IPsec peers or measured load is insufficient, compare ASA5545-K9 while still planning migration to a supported platform.
