FS-248E-FPOE powers all 48 copper access ports

Fortinet FortiSwitch FS-248E-FPOE is the full-PoE member of its 48-port E-series family. Fortinet specifies 48 x GE RJ45 PoE+, 4 x GE SFP and a maximum 740W PoE output limit. The FPOE suffix is material: it distinguishes this switch from the 24-port-PoE FS-248E-POE and from non-PoE 48-port models.

Design from the endpoint power schedule

Build a per-port load plan for access points, cameras, phones and other powered devices. Record each device class, normal and startup draw, redundancy expectation and priority. The 740W figure is the platform maximum, not a promise that every endpoint combination will run without budgeting, cabling and thermal checks.

Four GE SFP uplinks

The four SFP cages are Gigabit uplink interfaces. Select transceivers by medium, wavelength, distance and peer compatibility, and validate them against the intended FortiSwitchOS release. SFP modules and fiber assemblies are not implied by the base FS-248E-FPOE order line.

Power-resiliency option

Fortinet lists the external FRPS-740 as a redundant AC power option for this model. Treat it as a separate accessory: confirm the exact RPS SKU, cable, supported topology and rack/power plan in the quotation. External redundancy does not replace the need to validate upstream circuits and PoE load behavior.

Controller and software gate

The switch can operate with a compatible FortiGate controller through FortiLink and is listed in FortiSwitchOS 7.2.x supported models. Confirm FortiGate, FortiOS, FortiSwitchOS, BIOS and feature-license compatibility before deployment. Test VLANs, authentication, uplinks, PoE priorities and representative endpoint restart behavior before migration.
