FS-224E is a fanless, non-PoE 24-port switch

Fortinet FortiSwitch FS-224E provides 24 x GE RJ45 access interfaces and 4 x GE SFP uplinks in a fanless Layer 2/3 platform. It is the non-PoE model; it must not be quoted as FS-224E-POE or used as the source of power for attached access points, cameras or phones.

Quiet-edge deployment

The fanless construction is useful for branch, office and other acoustically sensitive locations. Passive cooling still requires the rack clearance, ambient temperature and airflow specified by Fortinet. Do not obstruct the chassis or place it next to unmanaged heat sources simply because it has no fan.

Plan endpoint power separately

Because FS-224E is non-PoE, document how each powered endpoint will receive electricity: local adapter, approved injector or another PoE switch. Keeping that dependency in the bill of materials prevents a technically correct data-port count from becoming an incomplete installation.

Gigabit SFP uplink boundary

The four uplinks are GE SFP, not 10GE SFP+. Match transceivers to the fiber or copper medium, reach and peer device, and verify support in the target FortiSwitchOS release. Optics and patch leads require explicit order lines.

FortiLink and acceptance

Fortinet lists FS-224E for FortiGate-managed FortiLink designs and continues to include it in FortiSwitchOS 7.2.x supported models. Confirm controller and software compatibility, then test uplinks, VLANs, authentication, spanning tree, management reachability and representative endpoints before site migration.
