FG-30E Overview
Count network ports separately from the console
The FortiGate 30E rear panel labels one WAN connection and ports 1 through 4. Fortinet identifies all five as Gigabit Ethernet connections. The additional RJ45 connector is CONSOLE for a management computer and command-line access, not another traffic port.
Check the adapter and panel when receiving a unit
The manufacturer drawing specifies 12 VDC at the appliance and a 100–240 VAC, 50–60 Hz power adapter. Match the offered unit and adapter to those specifications rather than treating an Ethernet connection as a power input. The USB Type-A connector is on the front panel and is identified as USB 3.0 in the hardware supplement.
Use both Ethernet indicators for link checks
For a numbered port or WAN, the Link/Act indicator shows connection and traffic activity separately from the Speed indicator. Fortinet identifies green speed status with 1 Gbps and amber with 100 Mbps. An unlit speed indicator alone does not establish a failed port: the documented state also covers a 10 Mbps connection, so inspect Link/Act as well.
