FG-2200E High-Density 25/40GbE Firewall

FG-2200E is the non-storage FortiGate 2200E Series appliance for high-density data-center and aggregation deployments. Its defining hardware mix is four 40GbE QSFP+ slots, eighteen 25/10/1GbE SFP28 data slots, two 25/10/1GbE SFP28 HA slots, twelve GE RJ45 data ports and two GE management ports in a 2RU chassis.

Do not substitute the storage variant

Fortinet lists zero onboard storage for FG-2200E; the related FG-2201E carries two 1TB SSDs. Confirm the chassis label and storage requirement before ordering. Local log retention, analytics and incident workflows that require disks must not be assumed from the shared 2200E Series name.

Port groups affect deployment

Four NP6 processors connect through the integrated switch fabric. SFP28 ports operate in defined speed groups, so changing one member between 25GbE, 10GbE and 1GbE can affect other ports in that group. Build the port map, HA links, optic PIDs and speed plan before migration rather than treating all SFP28 cages independently.

Published performance context

The current data sheet publishes up to 21.8Gbps IPS, 13.5Gbps NGFW and 11Gbps threat-protection throughput under Fortinet's stated enterprise traffic mix, plus 158/155/100Gbps IPv4 firewall throughput by packet size. These are sizing references, not a guaranteed result; SSL inspection profile, logging, policy complexity and traffic distribution must be represented in a proof of concept.

Receiving and commissioning

Verify FG-2200E PID/serial, dual hot-swappable AC supplies, front-to-back airflow, rail and cord set, included optics and the absence of local disks. Confirm the selected FortiOS release supports the exact model, then validate HA heartbeat isolation, grouped port speeds, NP6 offload, routing sessions, logging destination and controlled failover.
