Five-Year Secure RMA Retention and Disposal Governance

FC-10-GT71G-301-02-60 is the five-year Secure RMA add-on for one eligible FortiGate 71G. When Fortinet authorizes a qualifying replacement, Secure RMA removes the requirement to return the defective appliance. The customer can keep control of configuration and other sensitive information stored on non-field-replaceable media and manage final disposal under its own policy.

Maintain contract linkage for the full term

Link the 60-month add-on to the correct serial number and compatible FortiCare support contract. Review both dates annually and after any authorized replacement. Secure RMA does not create technical-support coverage by itself, and entitlement mapping must follow the replacement asset when the original serial is retired.

Preserve governance through staff and site changes

Name a service owner, data custodian and disposal approver. Keep the deployment country, secure storage location and authorized contacts current as sites, suppliers or personnel change. Train replacement administrators on the non-return process so a failed appliance is not shipped through the normal return channel by mistake.

Build a five-year evidence trail

For every incident, retain RMA authorization, failure record, original and replacement serials, custody transfers, configuration-restoration result and final disposition approval. If the organization sanitizes, destroys or archives the failed unit, record the method and evidence required by its security or regulatory policy. Fortinet's service permits customer-controlled disposal; it does not perform that internal governance for the customer.

Revalidate availability and recovery objectives

Country-level RMA availability can change, and the underlying support tier controls the normal replacement process. Review regional eligibility and delivery objectives each year. Add Priority RMA separately if the organization needs next-calendar-day or four-hour delivery in addition to non-return protection.

Five-year procurement checks

Confirm one add-on per protected FortiGate serial, including each applicable HA member. Preserve the full SKU, base support line, service location, activation date, expiration date, custody requirement and disposal owner. Begin renewal or platform-transition planning before the final year so non-return coverage does not lapse during a hardware migration.
