Before Approval

A five-year commitment requires lifecycle approval. Compare the contract end date with the virtual-infrastructure roadmap, FortiOS support, capacity forecast and migration budget, then perform annual fitness checks to limit stranded entitlement risk.

For this five-year VM04 line, document the application's expected lifetime and the maximum acceptable inspection growth. Annual governance should compare actual demand with the four-vCPU tier, review FortiOS eligibility and preserve a funded path to resize or replace the deployment without losing policy history.

Long-term evidence should include annual performance trends, FortiOS release decisions and the budget trigger for resizing. Record how policies, objects and certificates will be transferred if the four-vCPU instance is replaced before contract expiry.

VM Capacity Tier

Fortinet documents FortiGate VM04 for up to 4 vCPUs; actual performance depends on the deployment platform and traffic mix. It is a four-vCPU virtual firewall tier. VM04 should be accepted against measured inspected traffic, session demand and interface requirements. Capture the virtual network attachments, HA relationship, log export, CPU reservation and rollback owner. ATP supplies security services to the registered VM; the organization still owns hypervisor performance and continuity.

VM04 evidence should include peak inspected throughput, four-vCPU reservation, virtual-switch attachment and a recent policy-install duration. Review whether encrypted inspection or session growth is approaching the tier's practical limit before committing to a longer service period.
